With WhatsApp offline, Signal and Telegram go off

The applications Signal and Telegram soared in number of downloads this Monday, marked by WhatsApp off the air.

Signal, which has WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton as one of its leaders, posted a message on Twitter talking about the increase in the number of users and hoping that engineers from “other platforms” will be able to solve the instability problems soon.

Telegram, which has curated memes on Twitter on another similar occasion, said only that it wouldn’t do the same today and insinuating that it would be too much work to do that every time WhatsApp goes down, which it often does.

Searches for Telegram on Google soared on Monday, peaking around 1 pm.

The app works like WhatsApp, but it doesn’t have to be limited to just one device at a time, a function that WhatsApp works to bring to all users.
